Letter, 1894 May 30, Manning, [S.C., to] Ja[me]s F[erdinand] Izlar, Washington, D.C.

Letter to U.S. Representative J.F. Izlar complaining about "our much-officered citizen Louis Appelt," who served in various offices in Clarendon County, S.C., as well as several terms in the South Carolina legislature, before holding the dual offices of postmaster and editor of the Manning Times newspaper. Benbow urges Izlar to use his influence in Congress to have Appelt removed as postmaster; and comments on Appelt's views as editor of the Manning Times, a "dirty sheet ... calculated to do great harm" to conservatives.
